Elementary Class

One year

Students with no exposure to Chinese

Mastery of 2,000 commonly-used Chinese vocabulary; Mastery of basic Chinese grammar for foreigners; Mastery of 500 to 800 Chinese characters; Acquisition of basic reading ability (aided by Pinyin);

Ability of basic daily conversations;

Ability to write Chinese compositions of about 200 characters

Chinese for Beginners;

Listening for Beginners;

Speaking for Beginners;

Elementary Conversation;

Recognition and Writing of Chinese Characters;

Reading for Beginners

Intermediate Class

One year

Students with elementary Chinese proficiency

Mastery of 3,500 commonly-used Chinese vocabulary;

Mastery of intermediate Chinese grammar for foreigners;

Mastery of at least 1,500 Chinese characters;

Ability of reading general Chinese newspapers and books;

Ability for fairly fluent conversations in Chinese;

Ability to write Chinese compositions of about 500 characters

Main courses:

Intermediate Listening;

Intermediate Speaking;

Intermediate Reading;

Intermediate Chinese;

Intermediate Reading and Writing;

Chinese Stories

Advanced Class

One year

Students with intermediate Chinese proficiency

Mastery of at least 5,000 commonly-used Chinese vocabulary;

Mastery of advanced Chinese grammar for foreigners;

Mastery of at least 2,000 Chinese characters;

Ability of reading Chinese newspapers and books, and literary works and mastery of required written Chinese;

Ability for fluent conversations in Chinese;

Ability to write Chinese compositions of about 800 characters;

Some understanding of Chinese culture and the Chinese society

Main courses:

Advanced Chinese;

Advanced Speaking;

Advanced Listening;

Advanced Reading

Chinese Writing

Chinese Culture
