On the morning of January 21, the groundbreaking ceremony for the campus of the Greater Bay Area Institute for Innovation of Hunan University (HNU) was held in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou City. Deng Wei, secretary of the CPC HNU Committee; Cao Shengyuan, deputy secretary of the CPC HNU Committee; Jiang Jianhui and Chen Renpeng, vice presidents of HNU; and, relevant leaders from Zengcheng District and Guangzhou City autorities were present at the event.

Located at the core area of the Zengcheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, the campus of HNU Greater Bay Area Institute for Innovation enjoys advantageous location and serves as a hub for emerging industries. The campus covers an area of about 50 mu (about 3.3 ha.) and has a construction area of 80,000 sqm. Constructing the campus is a concrete step taken by Guangzhou City, Zengcheng District and HNU to support the implementation of the major national strategy for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It also represents a significant stride for the institute in actively contributing to the high-quality economic and social development of the region and advancing the "Double First-Class" Initiative. The institute will establish public technology platforms and major science project installations in the campus, carrying out cooperative education based on industry-education and science-education integration, and promoting commercialization and incubation of research findings. An industrial cluster with HNU characteristics will take shape, contributing to the high-quality development of the GBA.

Heads of relevant departments of Guangzhou City, HNU and Zengcheng District, alumni representatives of Hunan University, representatives of new R&D institutions in Guangzhou, cooperative enterprises of the institute, representatives of teachers, students and employees participated in the event.
