1.Introduction
HNU was authorized in 1997 to confer professional master's degree in mechanical engineering for in-service postgraduates. It has offered full-time postgraduate professional degree program since 2009. Over the past two decades, HNU established long-term educational, research, and technological development cooperation partnership with key manufacturing enterprises at home and abroad, and carried out in-depth cooperation in professional degree programs. It has fostered a number of high-level professional personnel.
HNU's mechanical engineering discipline, originated from Hunan Higher Industrial School's Mechanical Division founded in 1908, has a history of more than 100 years. It is a national key first-order discipline, with four national key second-order disciplines:vehicle engineering, mechanical manufacturing and automation,mechatronics engineering, and mechanical design and theory. In the 2012 China Discipline Ranking by the Ministry of Education (MOE), it ranked sixth nationwide. HNU has provided postgraduate academic degree program in mechanical engineering for 36 years. As of 2019, it has established several provincial and ministerial scientific research centers, including the National Engineering Research Center for High Efficiency Grinding, the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Manufacturing of Vehicle Body, the Engineering Research Center of Automotive Electrics and Control Technology of MOE, and the Key Laboratory of Advanced Design and Simulation Techniques for Special Equipment of MOE. During the 13thFive-Year-Plan period (2016-2020), the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Mechanical Engineering and the National Virtual Simulation Experimental Center for Mechanical Engineering were approved. The College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering is staffed with a group of high-level postgraduate supervisors, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 distinguished and chair professors of Changjiang Scholars Program, and 14 professors supported by MOE's Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University.
2.Program Objectives
Students are trained to have:
·Solid theory basics and systematic expertise in mechanical engineering and related disciplines, and knowledge about the state quo and development trends of related fields, especially in technology research and development;
·Comprehensive and solid expertise in engineering design, process analysis, mechanics modeling, and computer application;
·Ability to comprehensively apply professional knowledge to solve practical engineering and technical problems, and to organize and lead a team to carry out collaborative technical research; and,
·Good technical management and coordination abilities, and foreign language proficiency.
