The department only handles CSEE graduate student admissions. All undergraduate admissions are handled byHunan University Undergraduate Admissions. Helpful information about the undergraduate major in Computer Science by year can be foundhere.
The department offers the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy. We offer the following master degrees: Master of Computer Science and Technology (full-time research based master), Master of Software Engineering (full-time research based master), Master of Communication Engineering (full-time research based master), Master of Master of Computer Science and Technology (full-time and part-time practice based master) and Master of Software Engineering (full-time and part-time practice based master).

Undergraduate courses
The undergraduate course, called the Computer Science Majors, is a four-year course. Students graduating after four years receive the B.Eng. degree. Students who achieve a high standard in the four years can stay on for another three years and receive both the B.Eng. and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degrees. Open Days will be held around 1 September 2016 at the HNU CSEE Building.
There is also an option in the Hunan University that allows transfer into Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. Students can also apply to transfer from other courses at the end of their first or second year after a selection exam.
Masters courses
The three-year Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) is a general Masters degree, preparing students for PhD study in Computer Science or Electronic Engineering.
Doctoral courses
The PhD is the primary research degree that can be taken in the Computer Laboratory with your supervisor. The Hunan University PhD is a three-year programme of individual research on a topic agreed by the student and the Laboratory, under the guidance of a staff member as the student's supervisor. There is no compulsory course work, and students are expected to complete the substance of their research by the end of their third year, submitting their thesis then or within a few months.

We have strong undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Our college currently has one post-doctoral mobile station of computer science and technology; two doctorate level disciplines of computer science and technology, software engineering; three master degree level disciplines of computer science and technology, information and communication engineering, and software engineering. Areas of particular research strength include eight undergraduate-level programs of Computer Science and Technology, Communication Engineering, Information Security (Security Management), Intelligent Science and Technology, Internet of Things (IOT) Engineering, Software Engineering, Digital Media Technology and Secrecy Management. Among these, Communication Engineering and Software Engineering are the two national-level specialty concentrations. Moreover, the Computer Science and Technology program is the key concentration in Hunan province. Students at all levels are attracted to our very flexible programs of study and the integration of faculty research into the curriculum.

In recent years, we have sped up the pace of internationalization and have engaged international elites and well-known scholars as visiting or adjunct professors from distinguished universities in the world. We have carried out numerous academic exchanges and research cooperation with other universities. We have offered and enrolled international students for bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. programs under a full English teaching environment since 2001. Our international students come from over 40 countries worldwide.
A global perspective
Our College carries out academic and non-academic degree education, software development, and other IT services. In cooperation with the China International Talents Exchange Foundation, we have constructed an international training base (Changsha) for national software talent. We have signed cooperative agreements with Huawei, Baidu, Tencent, Microsoft, IBM, Jinshan, Lenovo and other companies so as to cooperate in talent training, faculty exchange, subject construction, scientific research and practice base construction. We have also signed cooperative agreement with world famous universities from UK, US and Japan on terms regarding to exchange students.
The CSEE college
HNU’s links to Computing stretch back to the second part of the Twentieth Century, when the famous politician and leader Mao Zedong wrote the Hunan University name as the modern educational foundations for Chinese Universities. In 1978, the Hunan University established The Teaching and Research Office for Computer Science, as it was known then, to further research in this field. That makes the department expanded with communication department and merged with Northern Campus Computer Science and HNU Software College, having just celebrated it's 39th anniversary in 2016.
As a Computer Science student at Hunan University, you are taught by the pioneers and leading researchers in the field. But that’s not all: in 2010 the Computer Laboratory moved to a new, purpose-built building on the South Campus of Hunan University site that offers a fantastic environment for both study and relaxation. The new building looks out on Lushan South Road where many tasty food shops and boutiques are located.
