The Semesterly ComputerScience and Electronic Engineering Volleyball Tournament this semester was another great success. Thanks to faculty (Computer Science eight departments, no less!) for their endeavor and support in showing up at the court and sending amazing posters and notices around. And of course, the CSEE activities leader team was instrumental in supplying the funding necessary to book the gym and buy the prizes.
This time, we had a grand total of 8 teams participating in the tournament- more than any previous semester! The eight teams were from the Department of teaching, experimental center, administrative & student work, cyberspace security, computer science, communication engineering, software engineering, computer engineering and information engineering are all knowledgeable teachers, but they are also good on the playground. And even after the registration deadline, there were at least two other teams that wanted to enter, but due to time constraints, they couldn't be fit in.
There were 4 teams entered in the Competitive A Division and 4 in the Competitive B Division. A total of 4 Engineering teams were entered, and most of them placed in the final standings. A strong showing was put on by Administrative and Student work team as well, which fielded a total of 4 teams. Information Engineering, as usual, put in a couple of very skilled teammates.
Play started with round robin play amongst the teams in each of two pools in both the Competitive A and B Divisions, in the Hunan University volleyball gyms, respectively. At the end of the Round Robin, decision came down to a matter of point-differentials during the round robin.
Two teams in each division advanced to the championship semi-finals, as well as two more teams advancing to the consolation semi-finals. All the playoff games were hard fought and exciting to watch, especially in the Competitive A division, where one game was decided in the third set by rally point.
At the end of the evening, the Competitive Championship was played for by two truly CSEE teams, both of which had a mix of players.
The Championship was an all Engineering affair, as the "Student workers", led by Ms Li, squared off against the "Info-Geers", captained by Mr Wang. Eventually, the youthful energy of Li's team (helped by the old bones of Huang) triumphed over the wisdom and experience of the Info-Geers with 15:11 in the third round.
The Consolation finals were won by Communication Engineering team in the Comp. Div. (just barely beating out the Comp Sci), and all team members in spite of being in the toughest division, put up a very valiant effort and had a great time!
After all the fun and games were over, most of the competitors headed to gym’s grand hall for some prizes. I hope everyone had a great time at the tournament, and I look forward to seeing everyone come out to the next one! Please send any comments to me at rosieyu@qq.com!
